AVAYA IP Office Overview

AVAYA IP Office Overview

The current version of the AVAYA IP Office telephone system is the AVAYA IP500. This version was launched in March 2008.

Previous versions of the IP Office have been the IP401, IP403DT, IP403DS, IP Office Small Office Edition and the IP412 (IP412 is still current at the time of writing this - March 2009). There were two versions of the IP406, Version 1 and Version 2.

Each version of the IP Office uses identical software and licenses across the range and differ only in the hardware architecture. There are various configuration rules as to what can be used with what - if you are in any doubt, we suggest you check with us: AVAYA configuration rules. We will quickly tell you.

There are also alot of different handset options on IP Office as well as a lot of different software levels. The latest software level is 4.2. A new major release of software comes out every year with a second lesser release later on in the year.

As the new software levels come out, they bring new features and older parts of the system such as hardware versions and handsets slowly become unsupported as the system refreshes. The software licenses and appilcations can always be retained protecting your investment in the solution.

This site is dedicated to the newest AVAYA IP Office IP500 telephone system.

AVAYA IP500 basics

The IP500 comes as an empty unit (standard rack-mount) with 4 empty slots in the front. Each slot can be deployed with one of the following:

DS8 module - supports 8 digital station handsets - eg DS5402, DS5410, DS5420

VCM32 or VCM64 - supports up to 32 or 64 simultaneous calls using VoIP

Phone 2 or Phone 8 - supports either 2 or 8 analogue extensions (eg fax, modem, cordless, PDQ)

Each of the modules above can then have a daughter card fitted onto it as follows:

BRI4 or BRI8 - Supports 4 or 8 ISDN2e channels (2 or 4 ISDN2e ''lines)

PRI - Supports an ISDN30 circuit (from 8 to 30 channels expandable by licence)

The system will support up to 32 extensions in it's basic format. The IP Office can be expanded beyond 32 extensions by purchasing a license called ''Standard to Professional Upgrade License''. This then allows you to use up to 8 expansion modules. The expansion modules can be as follows:

Phone8, Phone 16, Phone30 - supports 8, 16 or 30 analogue extensions.

DS16 or DS30 - supports 16 or 30 digital station handsets.

The maximum amount of ports available is 272 (port means extension or line).

This covers the basic configuration of the IP500 very briefly. Please see the other pages regarding Voicemail, Phone Manager, Applications, Pricing and so on.
