AVAYA DIGITAL HANDSETS

Since 2004, by far the most common AVAYA handset was the AVAYA DS5410 digital station telephone (pictured below). There are also 5402 and 5420 variants (smaller and larger displays respectively).

However, the 5400 series of digital handsets has recently been discontinued (early 2011) which is a shame as they were great handsets.

There are now (Dec 2011) two ranges of digital telephones - a budget range and a more expensive range. Both have an extensive number of buttons.

The budget range comprises the 1403, 1408 and 1416 handsets. These are pictured below. For most users, the 1408 handsets will be sufficient. This handset has a large display with 8 programmable keys so this provides easy access to the most used features. The 1416 merely has double the amount of programmable keys - 16. The 1403 could be used for meeting rooms or for users that don't have a high requirement for telephony features.

The 'better' range is made up of the 9504 and 9508 handsets - these handsets are easier to use than the 1400 range and benefit from self-labelling soft keys (no paper labels). These are more expensive but it is worth paying the extra in our opinion. The only difference is the size of the display. The 9508 has a large 8 character, 3 page display with self-labelling soft keys. The 9504 is the same but with just 4 soft keys with 2 pages - 8 soft keys in total. Both handset ranges include programmable buttons that can be configured for either features or providing visual status of internal extensions (busy lamp field). The normal features we program on this handsets include System Directory, Paging, Voicemail Transfer, Time/date, Call record, Visual Voicemail and Park 1 and Park 2. The soft buttons can be programmed easily by your office system administrator or by your AVAYA system maintainer.

All handsets offer an array of fixed keys including conference, transfer, drop, handset, volume, mute and alot more.

When used with AVAYA IP Office voicemail, all the handsets (apart from 1403) can be programmed with Visual Voice allowing easy use and navigation of the user's voicemail box. Trust us - voicemail access and ease of use has never been better than this. When using voicemail, the handsets will provide Visual Voice Mail which makes the voicemail even simpler to use as users can delete and forward messages by pressing options in the phone display.

Many AVAYA IP Office users use Phone Manager (which is free) which provides PC Call control which can often negate the need for all users to have costly handsets.

AVAYA ANALOGUE HANDSETS

AVAYA also provide analogue telephones such as the AVAYA Gemini 9335 and 9330 telephones as shown below. However, you can connect any normal analogue telephone.
